This POPIA Policy sets out how Lamleys Electrical complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), and how we protect the personal information of our customers, suppliers and website visitors.
1. Our commitment
We are committed to processing personal information lawfully, fairly and transparently, and to upholding the eight conditions for lawful processing set out in POPIA. We treat the personal information entrusted to us with care and only use it for legitimate business purposes.

3. The information we process
We process the minimum personal information needed to quote for and deliver electrical services — typically your name, contact number, the nature of your enquiry, the property type, and any details you choose to share. Where we carry out work, we may also hold job records, invoices and compliance documentation.
4. Purpose of processing
We process personal information to respond to enquiries, quote for and perform electrical work, issue Certificates of Compliance, invoice and keep accounts, and meet legal and regulatory obligations. We do not process personal information for any incompatible purpose without your consent.
5. The eight conditions for lawful processing
- Accountability — we take responsibility for how we handle your information.
- Processing limitation — we process it lawfully and only as far as necessary.
- Purpose specification — we collect it for the specific purposes described above.
- Further processing limitation — any further use stays compatible with the original purpose.
- Information quality — we take reasonable steps to keep it accurate and up to date.
- Openness — we are transparent about what we collect and why.
- Security safeguards — we protect it with reasonable technical and organisational measures.
- Data subject participation — we respect your rights to access and correct your information.
6. Your rights as a data subject
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- be notified that your information is being collected or has been accessed without authorisation;
- request confirmation of, and access to, the personal information we hold about you;
- request that we correct or delete inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive or outdated information;
- object, on reasonable grounds, to the processing of your information;
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

7. Sharing and cross-border transfers
We share personal information only where necessary to deliver our services or where legally required, and we require recipients to protect it. Enquiries submitted via WhatsApp or email are transmitted through those providers, which may process data outside South Africa under their own terms.
8. Retention and destruction
We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected or as required by law, after which it is securely destroyed or de-identified.
9. Complaints
If you believe we have not handled your personal information in line with POPIA, please contact our Information Officer first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa):
